Figure 1. Si vs (Al+Cr) (relative to 12 oxygen) of majoritic garnets. Subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) box indicates typical maximum thickness of Archean subcontinental lithospheric mantle; D/G is typical depth of the diamond-graphite transition under cratons. 1200 °C experimental data (Akaogi and Akimoto, 1979; Irifune, 1987) are shown as an arrow; tick marks indicate pressure (GPa). Fields for diamond-inclusion majorites (Stachel, 2001) are A: > 85% of analyses; B: higher-Si garnets, mainly from Monastery and Brazil. Jagersfontein xenolith data connect the mean reconstructed garnet and the whole-rock composition calculated as a garnet. (See references in text)
