Cover: Miocene loess-soil sequences in the western Chinese Loess Plateau. The region is characterized by valleys flanked by elongated hills with thick and relatively flat Miocene loess-soil sequences, reflecting the presence of large areas of inland desert in the Asian interior and persistence of an energetic monsoon climate regime in East Asia since the early Miocene. See “Particle size separation and evidence for pedogenesis in samples from the Chinese Loess Plateau spanning the last 22 m.y.” by Hao et al., p. 727-730.
